Euro nomadisme des pratiques et visions hybrides,

le temps de l’échange...

Initié par Transcultures en collaboration étroite avec Jodi Rose, artiste sonore et «agent de liaison» internationaliste, T.R.A.C.E.S (Transcultural Research Artist Curator Exchange Series) est un projet soutenu par la Commission européenne (DG Education & Culture- Programme Culture 2007-2013) qui part d’une nécessité de dialogue et de réflexion, entre les pratiques artistiques et culturelles contemporaines qui utilisent les technologies d’aujourd’hui de manière contextuelle et «inventive». Cette notion d’inventivité ou d’innovation revendiquée parfois un peu rapidement comme un label de qualité notamment en direction des institutions, doit passer au préalable par une recherche et une adaptation aux nouvelles formes de contenus, de langages, d’outils mais aussi de structuration et de migration.

Dans une société dominée, y compris dans le milieu culturel, par la vitesse et l’hyper consommation, ce temps là, essentiel pour la création et la critique, est aussi souvent sacrifié sur l’autel de la production. C’est aussi et peut être d’abord pour prendre enfin le temps de s’arrêter, de se rencontrer, d’échanger que nous avons lancé TRACES. Ici l’artiste n’est pas convié à créer ou à diffuser une oeuvre mais à faire entendre sa parole et il en va de même pour le commissaire artistique, le responsable de structure ou le critique qui peut ici partager son expérience, sa vision et approfondir ses questionnements en les croisant avec ceux des invités.

Les organisateurs de TRACES, Transcultures (Mons), IRZU (Ljubljana), Nida Art Colony comme leurs partenaires Pixelache (Helsinki), Kitchen Budapest et Migrating Art Academies (Cologne, Poitiers, Angoulême, Vilnius) partagent une joyeuse «indisciplinarité» revendiquée qui innerve et stimule leur projet. Créateurs, responsables culturels, spectateurs engagés et autres «rêveurs éveillés» ont aussi à se battre constamment non seulement pour survivre dans une société qui confond spectacle et art, en revendiquant encore et encore, leurs différences/interférences face aux conformismes établis, mais aussi pour se développer tout en repoussant la ligne d’horizon sans laquelle ce travail exigeant ne serait pas aussi un engagement et une passion.

Pendant 18 mois, TRACES se décline sous forme de workshops, symposiums, rencontres, présentations, «lounge» sessions, résidences, performances, booki, publications Internet et papier + DVD en fin de projet.

Après une premier symposium lors du festival des arts sonores Earzoom organisé par Irzu à Ljubljana début octobre 2010 et un TRACES lounge qui célébrait la «slow culture» pendant une semaine en février accueilli, dans l’Open Zone du festival des cultures numériques Transmediale à Berlin, TRACES se pose en Communauté française de Belgique.

Après avoir rencontré différentes structures à Bruxelles (FoAM, OKNO, iMAL, Labau/Media Ruimte), qui excelle dans la création numérique tant au niveau de la formation que de la recherche, de la production et de la diffusion, nous participerons activement aux rencontres professionnelles du festival VIA (VIA PRO, «Happy digital?» organisé par le CECN/lemanège.mons) et présenterons TRACES une première fois le 25 mars au Théâtre le Manège. Le 26, sera la journée consacrée au débat public et aux présentations de projets attenants à la thématique interrogeant les nouvelles pratiques interurbaines et intermédiatiques mais aussi les formes contemporaines de migration et de résistance transculturelles, chaque co-organisateur ayant invité, pour l’occasion, un créateur, responsable culturel ou commissaire artistique à rejoindre ce «think tank» in progress qu’est TRACES. En soirée, place au dialogue multisonique via trois créations live «» électro organiques qui tisseront aussi des liens sonores entre Ljubljana, Vilnius, Nida, Berlin et Mons.

Prochaine étape début mai, à l’Académie des Arts de Vilnius puis dans son nouveau projet qu’est la Nida Art Colony, pour le symposium «Inter-Fromat : réinventer l’interdisciplinarité et la résidence d’artiste» sur une île dans la mer baltique à la frontière lituano-russe. Initiated by Transcultures in close collaboration with Jodi Rose, sound artist and internationalist «liaison agent», T.R.A.C.E.S (Transcultural Research Artist Curator Exchange Series) is a project supported by the European Commission (DG Education & Culture) based on the necessity for dialogue and thinking between the various contemporary artistic approaches using the digital technologies («low tech» or «high tech), with a site specific and innovative dimension.

In a hypermodern society dominated by speed and ultra consumerism, it seems to us that this ability to take time is all too rare in our overbuys lives, although equally crucial for the artistic and critical process. This necessity to ‘take a break ‘ in the flux of actions, to concentrate on the exchange in an open vision of the current nomadic European creativity was a spur to launch the TRACES project. The artist is invited not to create another piece of work but to participate in the discussion and share their experiences and practice with the curator/researcher. The co-organisers of TRACES, Transcultures (Mons), IRZU (Ljubljana), Nida Art Colony and associated partners Pixelache (Helsinki), Kitchen Budapest and Migrating Art Academies (Cologne, Poitiers, Angoulème, Vilnius) share this joyful «interdisciplinarity/indisciplinarity» which stimulates multiple projects. In today’s tighter global economy, the artists, cultural workers, committed viewers and other ‘awakening dreamers» have to struggle constantly not only to survive, but to claim again and again their differences/interferences inopposing the established conformism, they also have to develop a concrete and public oriented project driven by passion and faith in their own visions of utopia.

During 18 months, TRACES is offering in different cities, festivals and locations, symposiums, workshops, «lounge» sessions, artistic residencies, performances, booki sampler, Internet & paper publications and DVD at the end of the project.

After the first «workshop» during the sound art festival Earzoom organised by Irzu in Ljubljana in October 2010 and the TRACES lounge inspired by ‘slow culture’ and welcomed in Open Zone of Transmediale Festival Berlin in February 2011, TRACES lands in Belgium. The organisers will first meet creative media labs and digital arts research centres in Brussels (FoAM, OKNO, iMAL, Labau/Media Ruimte). Then we will participate in the professional encounters of the festival VIA (VIA PRO, «Happy digital?» organised by CECN/lemanège.mons) with a presentation TRACES on March 25th at Theatre le Manège and attend other meetings and performances in Mons. On the 26th, the Fine Arts Museum of Mons (BAM) welcomes the TRACES debates, presentations on the theme «migrating mobility: intermedia practises- beyond/between cities - transcultural resistance». Each TRACES organiser will invite an artist, curator, «thinker» to participate to this think tank always in progress. In the evening, the dialogue will go on in a multisonic way with three electro organic live sets créations live linking Mons with Ljubljana, Vilnius, Nida and Berlin.

The next steps will be in May at the Arts Academy of Vilnius and at Nida Art Colony welcoming TRACES artists and curators in Iinter-format symposium: reinventing interdisciplinarity and artist residency on the Curonian Spit, Baltic sea at the frontier between Lithuania and Kaliningrad (Russia).

TRACES à Mons accueillie par Transcultures et ses partenaires locaux du manège.mons mais aussi le BAM et le Mundaneum, explore les implications philosophiques et concrètes de la création dans les paysages urbains, avec, entre et au-delà des villes. En réunissant des informations et les fruits d’échanges dans la diversité des expériences, des pratiques et des concepts partagés, nous désirons étendre ces conversations dans un contexte transdisciplinaire via un programme d’activités et l’apport spontané des participants. La discussion à Mons partira de projets spécifiques, de stratégies de résistance, d’échanges de savoirs informels et l’approche transeuropéenne et multidisciplinaire des structures implquées. Le tout avec un goût de culture locale, de chocolats belges, de brasseries artisanales et de baraques à frites.

TRACES in Mons hosted by Transcultures and its local partners le manège.mons, BAM and Mundaneum, explores the concrete and philosophical implications of working/creating in urban landscapes, with/between and beyond cities. Gathering information and exchanges through our range of experiences in diverse practical and conceptual backgrounds, we aim to extend these conversations in a trans-disciplinary context through the organised activities and spontaneous input of the participants. The discussion in Mons will focus on specific projects, strategies of resistance, informal knowledge transfer and the trans-european multi-disciplinary context of our various organisations, with the taste of local culture in Belgian chocolates, micro-breweries and the frites vans.
